Sponsor Feature: Leasa from Funkymom Cards!

I heart crafts. And I heart cards. Especially homemade ones, which is probably why I heart today's Sponsor so much!
Meet Leasa from Funkymom Cards.
Let me tell ya, this woman can craft!
And it's her type of blog that inspires me to get back into my scrapbook room (that I still haven't blogged about!) and get busy.

Take it away Leasa!

My name is Leasa and I blog at Funkymom Cards. I love Jesus with ALL my heart and I am so grateful for the things He has done for me. I am married to my best friend who makes me laugh daily.
Photobucket
I am a stay at home mom but I help my husband at church at least once a week. he is the childrens pastor, worship leader, and small groups pastor for our church. I have 3 awesome little boys Zacman, Kel Bel, and Mookie as we call them. Its a good thing I have boys because I am highly competitive, I love sports, and all 3 boys are playing baseball right now so my life is a little CRAZY.
Photobucket
I started Funkymom Cards as an outlet for my creative girly side. I love to scrapbook and that it how I branched off into card making. To me its just a smaller form of scrapbooking. Its much quicker and I enjoy instant gratification when it comes to crafting. Funkymom Cards isn't just about card making though I do all kinds of crafts and small DIY projects.

I also write about my kids (of course) and one of my favorite things is something I write called Grateful Heart where I reflect on things I am thankful for during the week. (I stole this idea from a blog friend and you can find her button on my page) I have also recently started an Etsy shop which I am excited about and would love for you to check out. Thanks for reading and I hope you will come visit me at Funkymom Cards and follow along. Have a great week!

Isn't she just the coolest! I love the little memo board that she created! Definitely check her out and I'm sure she would love comments and new followers!

Sponsor Feature: Nikki @ Raising Marshmallows

Have you ever met someone who is just so nice and witty that you wish you could be more like them? This is how I felt after reading the blog of today's Sponsor Feature Nikki from Raising Marshmallows. Her writing style is sure to snag you the first time you read her posts, and I LOVE her pictures. Make sure to stop on over to her blog and show her some love!

Hi, I'm Nikki.

Photobucket

Bio's are hard. I can't wrap my life up in a neat little box and then label it. Besides I hate labels and my life is anything but neat. Aside from that, I have way too much to say. So...I blog.

Raising Marshmallows is somewhere between tough love and indulgent parenting. While the light, spongy, very sweet confection doesn't exist on my blog, the proverbial one does, laced with parental sarcasm. The About Me section pretty much sums up the tone of my blog, so here are four extra tidbits.

I'm a writer by nature and mother by trade, or vice-versa depending on the day.

I will do anything for my family, except enable them.

I believe children can develop a good self-esteem and self image without being praised for everything they do.

and..

If I were to start a cause it would be called Parents Against Participation Trophies.

Thanks so much Nikki for sharing! I am such a huge fan of this gal's blog and I really encourage you to check her out! I know you're gonna love her!

Sweet memories...

Yesterday I decided that I was going to clean out and organize my entryway closet. It was WAY overdue and since our house is for sale I thought it was definitely a must!
So I went to Walmart and purchased some baskets, shoe racks, etc and came home and worked my magic.
But you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how it turned out!
(It's okay to hate me)

While I was going through the closet though I ran across a dusty old box that contained all of the cards we received for our wedding and showers. Of course, being mushy old me, I sat down right in the middle of our living room floor and went through all 200+ of them. It was such a blessing to see all the sweet words of encouragement and prayers that people sent our way during that time.
I was overcome with joy and sadness recalling memories at seeing the precious handwriting and sweet words of some of the people who left us much too soon. My sweet Aunt Vanda passed away not long after we were married. To see her words of testimony and encouragement, at a time when she could barely walk, I sat there and bawled like a baby.

And then I ran across a card from Landen's Grandpa Dallas who passed away a year ago. If ever two people loved each other it was his Grandma and Grandpa Marr. I'll never forget at the funeral when his Grandma looked at me and said "My vows aren't over yet." He was such an amazing man, and we were blessed beyond measure to have him in our lives.

I ran across a card from my Aunt Virginia who was taken at a young age leaving behind a very young family just this past summer. Again, such words of wisdom and love placed behind each pen stroke.

Card after card I was reminded of people who have come and gone out of our lives over the last four years. Best friends who are now in other places, church members who have went to be with the Lord, family members who we'd love to see just one more time. Isn't life beautiful! Through the heartaches and the pains God blesses us with people to make our lives complete.
And when you are sitting in your living room floor, crying your eyes out, you realize. You WOULD NOT be who you are without each of those people in your life.

Towards the end of the box I came across a little piece of paper and it brought the tears back all over again.

At our household shower, Landen and I were in the middle of opening all of the gifts we were blessed beyond measure to receive when my mom placed a big bag in front of me. I remember looking at her in confusion because I knew that my parents gift to me was the wedding and I was going to be mad if they had bought anything else.
I remember opening the bag and seeing the card.
When I opened the card a picture and a little piece of paper fell out. The picture was of my Grandma McGee holding me when I was a little girl.
And the piece of paper looked like this:

Photobucket

Let the tears begin.
You see, my Grandpa McGee died before I was even born, and my Grandma passed away when I was 3, not too long after the picture was taken that I was holding in my other hand.
So what in the world was in the bag?

I opened the tissue paper back and let me tell ya, when I pulled the gift out of the bag everyone in the room began to cry.
It was a quilt.
A purple quilt to be exact.
Purple is my favorite color.
Sometime, years ago, a woman sat quilting her little baby granddaughter a blanket, knowing that one day she would grow up; prayerfully meet a handsome, God-fearing man, and marry him. My Grandma made me a quilt.
I remember looking at my mom and just crying. My sister and my cousins were crying, we were all an emotional wreck...and it was the best gift I think I have ever received.

So you see, we are blessed.
We are blessed through friends, through family, through cards given to us at a wedding.
And we are blessed by Grandparents whose memory is still alive...every time I look at the quilt.

Sponsor Feature: Lucy from dulce creaciones

I am really exciting about today's sponsor feature!
Lucy from over at Dulce Creaciones is a super creative lady who loves all things sweet! Her blog is primarily in spanish and her goal is to introduce blogging to her Country and try to get other amazing ladies blogging as well! It's amazing some of the things we take for granted, huh?

I would love for you to stop over at her blog and give her some love!

Hi! My name is Lucy Newton. I am married to the love of my life Cristian (we were high school sweethearts)

Photobucket

I have a 15 year old daughter, Nicole, who is in 10th grade

Photobucket

I started this blog thinking about all the people in the world who love scrapbooking and don’t speak English, but I want to include this language in a near future( Meanwhile you can follow the links provided in most of my posts and they take you to the English version). I am a stay at home mom, I also teach private English classes and sell some of my creations which include knitted scarves and headbands, scrapbook mini albums and calendars, and brownies and lasagna among others. One of my dreams is to open an Etsy store to sell the things I make and also to become a designer for a scrapbook company or two. But what really matters is my family, and although we are struggling a lot economically (we lost our house, our cars, our savings and our credit score takes the prize for the lowest in history!!!) we love each other and we are learning step by step (specially with two teenagers and one ADHD boy)on how to stay happy and united and to count our blessings. We live in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, home to tequila, mariachis and tortas ahogadas to name a few Mexican fun traditions. I live 45 minutes from Chapala Lake and Downtown Tlaquepaque, 4 hours from Puerto Vallarta, so if you have not been to Guadalajara you can locate me on the map.

I have an 11 year old boy, Lyon Alexander, who is in 6th grade.

Photobucket

And a 10 year old boy, Steven, who is in 5th grade.

Photobucket

I love to read, to cook, to swim and crafts, specially scrapbooking.

Photobucket

These are two of the recipes I have posted and two of my family´s favorite dishes.

So there you go! Isn't she super cool! And sooo talented. I love her scrapbook layouts. She reminds me that I have a lot of scrapbooking to get caught up on. And I think we should all encourage her to start her own Etsy store.

Embrace the Camera: Our house at springtime

Since this is the first spring that I have owned my camera I have been taking pictures of springy things like crazy. Flowers, bumble bees, grass. You name it, I've snapped it.
For this weeks Embrace the Camera I wanted to share just a few of my faves:

Ode to Wednesday {Wk 2}: Ode to painting....

*Just a quick note before I commence my lovely ode to painting and what it means to my life.*
I want to introduce you to a new series here on Our Life on a Marquee:

Photobucket
<----- grab the button over there <-----

The "Ode to Wednesday" series is just what it sounds like. Every Wednesday I am going to write a sweet, loving, ode to something that has touched my life. You might remember my heart-wrenching ode to the brownie last week.

I'd love for you to join!
Each week I will attach a linky party link that will run through Tuesday night! On Wednesday I will post my new ode AND link up to my favorite ode linked up from the week!

I can't wait to read all of the witty things that you will come up with!
And PLEASE, share the Ode to Wednesday love with others!

Link up at then end of this post!

And now,
the moment you have all been waiting for.

My ode:

Dear Paint Inmy Can,
Hello dear friend! I can't believe it's been so long since we've seen each other.
It's been what? A month?
Last time I saw you was when I painted that behemoth bed that we built.
I hope that things are treating you well.
I, however, am not doing so great.
Thanks for asking.
You see, lately, all I seem to be doing is spending time thinking about you. Thinking about how you take so much of my time.
I stand in line waiting to purchase you with my hard-earned money. Time.
I move things around and get my objects ready for you. Time.
I spend HOURS on end making sure that you don't get cozy in the bottom of your can and that each drop of you goes on the WALLS and not the FLOOR, since you can't seem to let go of my nice brown carpet once you land there. LOTS OF TIME.
I'm starting to rethink this friendship of ours.
Last night, I spent time with your cousin Mr. White Paint and his buddy El Brusho.
I spent A LOT of time with him actually.
We spent hours going over every door and piece of trim in the upper floor of my house. And while he looks good up there
my hand hasn't quit cramping yet.
I think I kinda hate ole Whitey.
I kinda hate him a lot.
Actually, now that I think of it.
I kinda hate you all.
Next house, maybe I won't even invite you over! Or maybe, I'll come up with some awesome way to make enough money to pay someone to deal with you instead of me!
You see,
you and your paint-like family just stink!
I would rather walk screaming into a room filled with a hundred porcupines ready to attack than spend another second with you.
But, you know me too well.
And you know that in a couple weeks I'll get a craving for something new.
And I'll give in and come running back to you and your dang cousin Mr. Whitey.
It's a only a matter of time.

Covered in your love,
Amanda

Sponsor Feature: Lauren from First Comes Love

One of the things that I am finding that I love most about blogging is all of the new friends I am making and this gal is definitely one of them!
Meet Lauren from First Comes Love
She is a cute, spunky, gal in a very familiar situation.
Wife, Newly married, great dog.
Sound familiar?
It's no wonder we have become friends through the blogosphere.
I just love the wit she puts behind each post and I love that she loves her life!

And I also love that Lauren was kind enough to pop on over and say hi!

Hi! My name is Lauren from First Comes Love...

Photobucket

My husband, Matt and I live in Nashville with our sweet and lazy puppy, Molly.

Photobucket

I originally started this blog as an outlet to keep our families and friends in the loop about our lives as newlyweds in a new city away from home. We are making a point to enjoy these sweet years of early marriage that we’ll never have back again…

Photobucket
That very attitude is where my blog title was born… First Comes Love. Before jobs and bills and babies and taxes and chores and retirement funds… comes love. We are so content with the place we’re at in life… the daily lesson of what it means to be married and the importance of enjoying every last drop of the day… the ability to look to the future with excitement without sacrificing the beauty that lies in the present. First… above all else… comes love.

Photobucket

Over time, First Comes Love has also evolved somewhat into a sounding board for the various projects I find myself in the midst of at any given time. I’m making our house a home and doing so on a tiny budget (aren’t we all?) and a lot of resourcefulness (on my good days)! I enjoy most do-it-yourself projects, really, but I find refinishing furniture the most rewarding to me personally. Whether we already own the piece, or I stumble across a treasure that I can't live without, I love to breathe new life into pieces that may have otherwise been forgotten.

Photobucket

Most recently, I found a vintage window salvage yard near my house. I picked up a few that peaked my interest and started playing. I ended up (by mistake) making wall art for my own home, but also transformed several into mirrors to sell in my new etsy shop!

Photobucket

I’d love for you to drop in and check it out! Plus, I’ll be adding lots of other goodies in the coming weeks!

Thank you, Amanda, for the feature! I enjoyed the visit!

Lauren

So make sure you head on over to her blog and check her out. And her Etsy shop is super adorable too!

Ode to Wednesday {Wk 1}: Ode to a Brownie

Photobucket

Dear Brownie,
Why hello there.
Yes, I do see you, sitting there so nice and quietly on my desk.
I can feel you watching me, begging me to pay you a visit.
But you see, here is the problem,
your visits aren't temporary.
It's permanent. If I visit you, you will live forever on my thighs.
And to be honest.
I've been working pretty dang hard on my thighs the last few months.
*Sigh*
I know that you have that flaky chocolaty texture, and that warm gooey center.
Why do you have to be so dang perfect?
Such a cute little square sitting there poised so perfectly on my napkin.
I hate you brownie.
I hate your stinkin' guts.
All gooey goodness of them!
Anyway,
I have to be going now.
My plain Cheerios are calling my name.
Those are a much nicer friend to me,
even though they taste like crap compared to you.
I hate Cheerios too.
I'm sorry we can no longer be friends,
but you see...I'm liking my new body and my new self-confidence.
So, so long Brownie.
Maybe one day we'll meet again.
Until then, you are off to meet the Big Brownie in the air...
...or the trashcan.
So long.

Ever so affectionately,
Amanda

Sponsor Feature: Kristen from Curious Cora

Welcome to my first Sponsor Feature post!!!
I am so overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from my recent sponsor post. It was such a scary thing to open up and ask people to want to be a part of my blog! I am such a blessed gal!
So for the next few weeks every Tuesday and Thursday will be feature posts from some of my newest sponsors. These ladies are all super great and I can't wait to get to know them better and I just know you'll love them too! Make sure to stop by their sites and show them some love, and tell them Amanda sent ya!

Our first sponsor feature is a totally rad mom named Kristen and her blog called Curious Cora. The ADORABLE cute little girl on her blog header is Cora herself and the blog is all about motherhood and exploring new things as mother and daughter. Even though I'm not a mom yet I still find moments like the ones she shares so incredibly awesome!

But why don't I let Kristen tell you about herself!

Hello, My name is Kristen, and I am a SAHM to my wonderful 4 month old daughter, Cora! Hence the name of my blog--Curious Cora.
When I first started blogging, I just wanted to document the life of my daughter growing up. Then I saw that other women were doing product reviews and giveaways and wanted to get on the action, so I set out to do just that! Many of my giveaways are from Etsy, because I love handmade things and I love promoting small businesses. Some of my other interests are photography, learning how to sew, and baking (I love my new Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer!) I hope you all will drop by Curious Cora, read some posts, and enter some great giveaways!
Some of my favorite posts are
and

So there you go! Isn't she just adorable!? Both mommy and daughter!
I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far. Landen and I are trudging along with our household chore chart and meal planner calendar that we created last week and lo and behold it's actually working! Now maybe I can come home to a semi-clean house everyday and feel less like a failure as a wife!

Pieces of wisdom and a new take on things..

Last night I was really excited to get to attend a Women's Conference with my friend Lindsay at her church.
The night was full of great little snippets of wisdom and faith talk but one of the things that the speaker said really stuck with me.
Maybe it's because of this road I have been on with my dieting and giving up almost all of my former junk food addictions.
Maybe it's because it was a slap in the face from God Himself.
Probably it was a mixture of the both, but either way I thought I'd share it with you.
The speaker gave the illustration of a mother and father slaving over a hot delicious gourmet meal. The parents went into the living room to call their kids to dinner only to find them cramming Twinkies and Cheetos and pure junk down their throats. When they told them to come eat they responded, not surprisingly, by saying "I'm not hungry!"
In the same way, if we fill ourselves up with the junk of this world (lies, addiction, lust, self-pity, laziness, etc), we will ALWAYS approach the throne of God and His Word with an "I'm not hungry" attitude.
That just really stood out to me.
The conference was great and it is one more reason that I am so glad God put someone like Lindsay in my life.

I've also been really busy this week trying to reorganize our life a little bit. While on vacation it hit me that I am just NOT happy with the pace that our lives have been running at lately. It seems like my to-do list keeps getting longer before I even have a chance to cross anything off.
So, the hubby and I sat down and had a talk. What can we do to organize our everyday schedules and routines and condense things down to make them more manageable and more realistic.
Thus the household cleaning list and monthly meal calendar were born.
I got the idea for the household cleaning chart from an article that I read in the paper. Basically, I created a form that details all of our chores (from daily all the way to yearly) and then included a check-off box next to each chore. Then I stuck it in a 8x1o photo frame so that we can use our dry-erase markers to check off each item everyday. This will not only keep me accountable but also help when one of us might not be here to make sure everything gets done.

I won't share all of the chores on our lists but our daily and weekly chore list looks like this:
Daily Chores:
Make bed
Tidy Up
Laundry (1 load a day)
Dishes
Wipe Down Counters

And Weekly Chores:
Monday: Coupons, dust,
Tuesday: Floors
Wednesday: Bathrooms
Thursday: Windows

These were things that I was doing every week anyway I was just usually running around on Saturday hoping to get them all done. Now, hopefully we can enjoy our weekends and get things done a little at a time throughout the week.

The other thing that we did was create a monthly meal planner calendar.
Earlier this week I rounded up a bunch of our recipes, categorized them, and then decided which night of the week to designate to each category. I rounded down my categories to:
Sunday: Family dinner (we always eat out with family after church)
Monday: Crock pot
Tuesday: Date Night
Wednesday: Quick and Easy
Thursday: Family Faves
Friday: Pasta Night
Saturday: Grill or New Recipe

Then I just mapped out the different meals we wanted on the calendar.
After I got this all organized I created a shopping list and went through my shopping plan (which I will detail next week).

I thought that since you guys have been so awesome, and in celebration of my first full week offering blog sponsor spots I would treat you guys with a free printable version of the Meal planner that I created for ourselves.

So here ya go!

And if you decide that you would like me to customize it for you in anyway I would be happy to do so for a $2.00 fee. This would include any customizations you desire as well as pdf copy of the file to be used whenever you wish!

You guys have been so stinkin' awesome and I am so excited to see where the future of this blog may be headed! Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement and I hope to hear from you soon!
